How to convert hourly pay to a salary

  • A full-time year is 40 hours × 52 weeks = 2,080 hours. Multiply the hourly rate by 2,080 for the yearly salary: $25 an hour is $52,000 a year.
  • A quick rule: double the hourly rate and add three zeros ($25 → $50,000). It is a little low because a year has 52 weeks, not 50.
  • To go the other way, divide the salary by 2,080: $60,000 a year is $28.85 an hour.
  • The median US employee earns $24.51 an hour, or $50,980 a year (BLS, May 2025).
